Chai Latte
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
- 1 1/2 tbsp loose black tea leaves (or 2 black tea bags)
- 2 cinnamon sticks (broken into pieces)
- 4–5 cardamom pods (crushed)
- 1 inch fresh ginger (sliced)
- 4 cloves
- 1 tsp black peppercorns
- 1 tbsp honey (or sweetener of choice)
Instructions
- In a saucepan, bring the water to a boil. Add cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves, and black pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Add the tea leaves or tea bags and steep for 3-4 minutes.
- Pour in the milk and bring to a gentle simmer for 2 more minutes.
- Strain the mixture into mugs, sweeten with honey or preferred sweetener, and serve hot.
Notes
For a vegan version, use oat, almond, or coconut milk. Adjust the spices to your taste or add a shot of espresso for a dirty chai latte.
