Batter Mix
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour for coating
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal or breadcrumbs for extra crunch

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1/2 cup milk or buttermilk
Frying
  • 2 cups vegetable, peanut, or canola oil for deep frying

Method
 

  1. Pat the seafood dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, cornmeal or breadcrumbs, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together egg and milk (or buttermilk).
  4. Dip each seafood piece into the wet mixture, then coat evenly with the dry batter.
  5. Heat oil in a deep fryer or skillet to 350°F (175°C). Fry seafood until golden and crispy, about 2–3 minutes per side.
  6. Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with lemon wedges and your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Experiment with regional styles such as Japanese tempura or Cajun-spiced batters. For a lighter version, try air frying. Always choose sustainably sourced seafood for best flavor and environmental care.
