  • 2 large yellow onions Feel free to substitute with sweet or red onions, sweetness may vary.
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp kosher salt divided

Method
 

Cooking Onions
  1. Heat the butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and half of the kosher salt.
  3. Cook gently, stirring often, for about 20-30 minutes, until the onions are soft and begin to caramelize.
  4. Add the remaining salt and continue cooking for an additional 10-15 minutes, stirring until the onions are deep golden brown.
  5. Remove from heat and use as desired.

Notes

Patience is key! Stir often and don’t rush the process; let those onions work their magic. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week or freeze for longer storage.
