Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the macaroni in boiling salted water according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute to create a roux.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar cheese until melted. Add salt and pepper to taste.
- Combine the cheese sauce with the cooked macaroni until well coated.
Baking
- Transfer the macaroni and cheese mixture into a greased baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the breadcrumbs and parmesan cheese. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the macaroni.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and crispy.
