- Step 1 – Prepare slurry for gravy: In a small bowl, whisk together arrowroot powder and cold water to form a slurry.
- Step 2 – Thicken gravy: Slowly stir the slurry into hot broth or drippings. Simmer while whisking gently until the gravy thickens and becomes glossy.
- Step 3 – Coat tofu: Toss cubed tofu in arrowroot powder until evenly coated.
- Step 4 – Fry tofu: Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry tofu cubes until golden and crispy on all sides. Drain on paper towels and serve.
Notes
Arrowroot powder works best when not overheated. Avoid combining it with dairy to prevent a slimy texture. Store in a cool, dry place in an airtight container for maximum shelf life.
