Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned; drain any excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet, cooking until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
- Stir in the frozen mixed vegetables, tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
- Let this mixture simmer for 5–7 minutes until it thickens slightly.
- Transfer the beef mixture into a casserole dish, spreading it evenly.
- Top with your prepared mashed potatoes, covering the filling completely.
- Dot the mashed potatoes with butter and sprinkle cheese if desired.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20–30 minutes, until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let it cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a golden top, broil the casserole for a few minutes at the end. Customize by swapping ground beef for turkey or lamb, or using fresh vegetables according to your preference.
