For the topping
  • 3 cups mashed potatoes (prepared from about 3 large potatoes)
  • 2 tablespoons butter for dotting on the mashed potatoes
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese optional topping

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned; drain any excess fat.
  3. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet, cooking until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
  4. Stir in the frozen mixed vegetables, tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  5. Let this mixture simmer for 5–7 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  6. Transfer the beef mixture into a casserole dish, spreading it evenly.
  7. Top with your prepared mashed potatoes, covering the filling completely.
  8. Dot the mashed potatoes with butter and sprinkle cheese if desired.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 20–30 minutes, until the top is golden and bubbly.
  2. Let it cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a golden top, broil the casserole for a few minutes at the end. Customize by swapping ground beef for turkey or lamb, or using fresh vegetables according to your preference.
