  • 1 medium onion, sliced Sweet onions recommended.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For sautéing.
  • 4 pieces hoagie rolls Can substitute with brioche or kaiser rolls.
  • 8 slices cheese (provolone or Cheez Whiz recommended)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

Preparing the Beef and Onions
  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they are soft and golden, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart and cooking until browned, approximately 8-10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
Melting the Cheese
  1. Once the beef is cooked through, reduce the heat to low and lay the cheese slices over the beef mixture. Cover the skillet until the cheese is melted.
Toasting the Rolls and Assembling
  1. Toast the hoagie rolls in a separate pan or in the oven if desired.
  2. Spoon the beef and cheese mixture into the toasted rolls. Serve hot.

Notes

Store leftover beef in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat gently. For variants: add mushrooms, swap cheese, or go low-carb with veggies.
