Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 150 ml milk (lukewarm) Can be substituted with plant-based milk.
  • 70 ml water (lukewarm)
  • 7 g instant yeast
  • 12 g honey Can substitute with sugar.
  • 400 g all-purpose flour Can use gluten-free flour with xanthan gum.
  • 7 g salt
  • 30 g unsalted butter (room temperature)

Method

Preparation
  1. Stir the yeast into the lukewarm milk, water, and honey. Let it rest until it becomes foamy, about 5-10 minutes.
  2. Add the flour, salt, and butter. Knead this mixture until it’s smooth and elastic.
  3. Allow your dough to rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, which usually takes about 1 to 1.5 hours.
  4. After rising, divide the dough into 10 pieces and shape them into balls. Feel free to fill them with sweet or savory fillings if you wish.
  5. Let the balls rest for another 30 to 40 minutes until they puff up nicely.
  6. Heat oil to 175°C (350°F). Fry the buns in small batches until they turn a lovely golden color.
  7. Drain them on paper towels and serve plain, sugar-dusted, or filled, depending on your mood.

Notes

To store leftovers, keep them in an airtight container at room temperature or freeze for longer storage. Serve with jam or honey for added flavor.
