Ingredients
  

For the Custard
  • 6 large egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
For the Cream
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 8 oz mascarpone cheese
For the Assembly
  • 1 cup strong brewed espresso, cooled
  • 1 tablespoon coffee liqueur (optional) Can be substituted with vanilla extract for a non-alcoholic version.
  • 24 pieces ladyfingers Gluten-free versions available.
  • as needed Cocoa powder for dusting

Method
 

Preparation of Custard
  1. In a saucepan, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until thick and pale.
  2. Gradually stir in milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
Whipping Cream
  1. In a large bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form.
  2. Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese until smooth.
Combine Mixtures
  1. Slowly mix the cooled custard into the mascarpone mixture until fully incorporated.
Prepare Ladyfingers
  1. In a shallow dish, combine the brewed espresso and coffee liqueur.
  2. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the espresso mixture, ensuring they soak but don’t get mushy.
  3. Layer them in a dish or individual tiramisu jars.
Layering
  1. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
  2. Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and top with the remaining mascarpone mix.
Chilling
  1. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for the best flavor.
Serving
  1. Before serving, dust with cocoa powder and enjoy this delightful tiramisu.

Notes

Tiramisu pairs beautifully with fresh berries or a drizzle of chocolate sauce. It keeps well in the fridge for up to 3 days.
